Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Finance to state the amount of the subsidy paid out of the moneys voted for stationery and printing to the “Connacht Tribune” in 1930-31, and the number of columns of Irish printed in that paper during that year in excess of one and one-half columns weekly.

Minister for Finance (Mr. Blythe): The scheme came into operation only on 1st September, 1930. The amount paid to the Connacht Tribune Co. in respect of the seven months ending 31st March last totalled £84 15s. 0d. The number of columns of Irish in excess of 1½ per week printed in the company's papers during the period was 56½.

Mr. Lemass: Can the Minister state if the subsidy is calculated on the amount of Irish printed in each issue, or is there a certain amount paid each year?
