Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Saorstát National Income.

Tomás O Conaill asked the Minister for Finance whether his attention has been called to Appendix E to the Report of the De-rating Commission (paragraph 30, page 128) which states that there are grounds for thinking that our national income is in the neighbourhood of £170 millions, and whether he can say what authority there is for this estimate.

Minister for Finance (Mr. Blythe): I have no information on this matter other than what appears in the report itself.

Mr. O'Connell: Would the Minister be in a position to say whether the information was got from the Statistical Department?

Mr. Blythe: I could not say.

Mr. O'Connell: I am anxious to find out whether it is a statement that can be accepted.

Mr. Blythe: If the Deputy will look at what appears in the Report in Paragraph 149, Page 65, he will see that nothing in that particular memorandum professes to be conclusive or scientifically accurate.
