Mr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce to state (a) [745] the total amounts of remittances from the United States and Canada paid through the Free State banks and the Post Office for the years 1928-29-30; (b) the total amounts paid through the banks; (c) through the Post Office; and (d) the total amounts paid through the banks and Post Office for each of the twenty-six counties of the Free State for the same periods.

Mr. McGilligan: The only information at present available is in reference to remittances paid through the Post Offices. The total amounts for remittances from the U.S.A. and Canada paid through the Post Offices in the Saorstát in each of the years 1928, 1929 and 1930, respectively, were:—

The amounts paid through Post Offices in each of the 26 counties are not available. An inquiry is at present being made into the amounts of remittances paid through the banks, but all returns have not yet been received.
