The President: I propose to take the Estimates first and not to have the business interrupted, but I propose at a convenient hour, either 12 or 1 o'clock, to take the Land Bill from the Seanad. The Parliamentary Secretary proposes to accept the amendments.

Mr. de Valera: Is it not rather soon to take the Land Bill? The amendments from the Seanad have only just come into our hands, and they require a certain amount of consideration and discussion. Is there any urgent necessity to take that Bill to-day? Could it not be postponed until Wednesday?

The President: This is the 24th April, and it is very advisable to have the [314] Bill passed a sufficient number of days before the gale day, which is the 1st May, in order to avoid a multiplicity of calculations in respect to the alterations in the percentages that will take place by reason of the passing of the measure. The Parliamentary Secretary will explain the various amendments, and I think that an opportunity would be afforded then of seeing whether it would not be possible to take it to-day. I am advised to have it passed at least a week before the gale day.

Mr. de Valera: If it is passed on Wednesday there will be ample time.

The President: That would only give two days.

Mr. de Valera: Then we can decide that when it comes on to-day.
