Mr. Corry Mr. Corry Mr. Corry asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that Jeremiah Hurley, P.C., of Killeena, Carrigtwo-hill, was fined five pounds by the District Justice for assault at the Cork District Court; and if he intends to continue Jeremiah Hurley as Peace Commissioner for this district. Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney: I have had inquiries made into this case and having regard to all the circumstances I do not consider it desirable in the public interest to remove Mr. Hurley from the office of Peace Commissioner. Mr. Corry Mr. Corry Mr. Corry: Does the Minister consider that a gentleman who has been fined £5 by the District Justice for a brutal assault is a suitable person to administer law in the district? Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney 2003 [2003] Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney: I do not accept the term “brutal assault.” Mr. Corry Mr. Corry Mr. Corry: Is the Minister further aware that in fining this gentleman £5 for assault the District Justice commented that he was the greatest perjurer that had ever appeared before him and does the Minister intend taking any steps to have this gentleman prosecuted for perjury? Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney: I am not aware of any such statement by the District Justice. Mr. Corry Mr. Corry Mr. Corry: Will the Minister have inquiries made?
