Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Buncrana Pier.

Mr. A.J. Cassidy asked the Minister for Finance whether, in view of the large amount of unemployment existing in Buncrana area, he will arrange for an additional number of men to be employed in connection with the construction of Buncrana Pier prior to Christmas.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance (Mr. Bourke): [409] Arrangements are being made which it is hoped will permit of more men being employed at an early date, keeping in mind the necessity for efficiency and economy.

Mr. Cassidy: Will the Parliamentary Secretary take steps to see that additional men are employed? In view of the unemployment existing in that area, will he do something to see that employment is given before Christmas?

Mr. Bourke: We are giving attention to that point, but it is not always possible to give effect to it.

Mr. Cassidy: Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that slow progress is being made in the construction of the Pier, and that if an additional number of men are employed it would expedite the building?
