Dáil Éireann - Volume 35 - 05 June, 1930 Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restrictions) Bill, 1930.— Fifth Stage. Minister for Justice (Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney) James Fitzgerald-Kenney Minister for Justice (Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney): I move that the Bill do now pass. Mr. Goulding Mr. Goulding Mr. Goulding: There is one omission from this Bill to which I desire to call attention. A lessee whose lease expired this year or last year gets no protection under this Bill. Is it the intention of the Minister to make coming legislation retrospective? Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney: This Bill before the House simply carries on the existing Act; it does nothing more. Mr. Goulding Mr. Goulding Mr. Goulding: The position is that these people were under the impression that their interests were to be protected. Now they find themselves in the position that when their lease is expired this year they will have lost their rights to their holdings. Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney: The Deputy is on a different question. That is a town tenants' question, and not an increase of rent and mortgage question. Question put and agreed to. Dáil Éireann 35 Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restrictions) Bill, 1930.— Fifth Stage. General Debate 19300605
