Dáil Éireann - Volume 34 - 14 May, 1930

Shop Hours (Drapery Trades, Dublin and Districts) Bill, 1930—From the Seanad.

The Vice-President (Mr. Blythe): It is proposed to give time for the consideration of the Shop Hours (Drapery Trades, Dublin and Districts) Bill, 1930, on next Wednesday.

An Ceann Comhairle: That is, to give time for a private Deputy to put down a motion to move the Second Reading.

Mr. T. O'Connell: Why not fix the Second Reading now?

Mr. Blythe: I propose to give time next Wednesday if a private Deputy will move it.

Mr. T. O'Connell: I will undertake to move it next Wednesday. Can we have any indication from the Minister as to the Government's attitude on the Bill?

Mr. Blythe: We may leave it to an open vote or we may oppose it. I do not know.

Mr. Davin: Is it to be treated as an opposed Bill?

Mr. Blythe: It certainly will be an opposed Bill. I know that there are people who will oppose it.

Mr. Davin: Is it a Government opposed Bill?

[1731] Mr. Blythe: I could not answer that.

A Deputy: Wait and see.

Mr. MacEntee: Is it necessary to wait and see?

Mr. Davin: Could we not leave it to Deputy J.J. Byrne to decide?

Second Reading of the Bill ordered for next Wednesday.
