Dáil Éireann - Volume 33 - 19 March, 1930

Order of Business.

Mr. Anthony: In view of the importance and urgency of the motion (Milling Industry) which is on the Order Paper in the names of both Deputy Davin and myself, I would ask the President, through you, Sir, if he will grant Government time for the discussion of the motion?

The President: I cannot undertake to answer this week and I think it is very unlikely that we will be able to give time next week.

Mr. Corry: Could the Dáil not sit on Saturday to discuss it?

The President: The Dáil can do quite a number of things but that is not one of them.

Mr. Davin: Would the President consider the possibility of giving Government time as soon as possible for the discussion of the motion?

The President: I cannot say either for this week or next week.

Mr. Davin: Are we to understand that the President is not declining Government time for the discussion of the motion?

[2050] The President: I am always ready to give time if it is possible to afford it.

Mr. Anthony: Is there any danger that in the meantime the Minister for Agriculture will introduce a tariff on flour?

An Ceann Comhairle: That would have come before the House.

Mr. Lemass: Could we be informed when it is intended to take the Budget statement?

The President: My present intention is to take the Budget on the reassembly after Easter, as the first business.

An Ceann Comhairle: That would be about the 30th April.

Mr. Davin: Will the President be in a position to answer Deputy Anthony's question on Wednesday next?

The President: I hope so.

Mr. Corry: Is it not more important than the Dominions?
