Proinnsias O Fathaigh asked the Minister for Education whether his attention has been drawn to the insanitary conditions obtaining in the National Schools of Charleville, as revealed in a report recently submitted by the local M.O., and if the Minister will state what steps are being taken towards the abatement of the nuisance.

Minister for Education (Professor O'Sullivan): A grant has been sanctioned by my Department for the provision of suitable sanitary accommodation at the Charleville Boys' and Convent Girls' Schools, and the necessary specifications will be sent to the Manager at an early date with a view to the execution of the works of improvement proposed.

Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been called to the report of Dr. Condy, County Medical Officer of Health, Co. Cork, with regard to the insanitary state of the Charleville Schools, and also to the overcrowding, and if he will see that the complaints in the report, as far as the schools are concerned, will be looked into immediately.

There is no overcrowding in the Charleville schools with one possible exception, and my Department is giving the issue in that case consideration.
