Mr. Moore Mr. Moore Mr. Moore asked the Minister for External Affairs whether the Government of the Saorstát was invited by the British Government to express an opinion on the proposal to resume diplomatic relations with the Russian Government; and, if so, whether the reply suggested any conditions which should govern a decision on the question or made any comment on the conditions suggested by the British Government. Mr. Hogan Mr. Hogan Mr. Hogan: The Saorstát Government were informed of the intention of His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom to re-open diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union. On this point no expression of opinion was asked for or offered. Mr. Moore Mr. Moore 1613 Mr. Moore: Is the Minister aware that that is contrary to the reports [1613] which have appeared in the Press and in the journal of the Empire Parliamentary Union, which has been circulated amongst Deputies? Mr. Hogan Mr. Hogan Mr. Hogan: I did not see the reports in the Press, but these are the facts. Mr. Cassidy Mr. Cassidy Mr. Cassidy: Is the Minister aware that pre-1914 large quantities of cured herrings were exported to Russia, and in view of that fact should the Minister not have expressed some opinion in order to get that market re-opened which would be of benefit to the fishermen? Mr. Hogan Mr. Hogan Mr. Hogan: I understand the British Government is actually doing what the Deputy advises. Mr. G. Boland Mr. G. Boland Mr. G.
