Mr. Broderick asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce to state (a) the number of unemployed persons registered at the unemployment exchanges on the 31st of October, 1929, for the counties of Longford [1453] and Westmeath respectively, and (b) the total number receiving unemployment benefit on that date.

Mr. Hogan: The numbers of persons registered as unemployed on the 28th October, 1929 (being the nearest date to the 31st October for which statistics are available) in the Employment Exchanges and Branch Employment Offices situate in Counties Westmeath and Longford were respectively 616 and 76 and the numbers who received unemployment benefit on the 1st November (being the nearest date to the 31st October for which statistics are available) were respectively 252 and 60.
