Dáil Éireann - Volume 32 - 13 November, 1929 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allegations Against Wexford Gárda. Séamus O Riain Séamus O Riain Séamus O Riain asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that Frank Connick, North Main Street, Wexford, was arrested on the 31st October, 1929, by a member of the Detective Division of the Gárda Síochána and taken to the Gárda Síochána Barracks; that it is alleged that this detective officer interrogated Connick about military organisations, that he drew a revolver and threatened to shoot him unless he gave information, and before releasing him that he threatened him with death if he spoke of what had occurred during this interview in the barrack. Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney: Frank Connick, who is suspected of being actively associated with a criminal organisation, was detained for about five minutes at about 11 o'clock on the night of 31st October and searched for firearms. No firearms were found upon him, and he was immediately released. He was not brought inside the Gárda Station at all, nor threatened, nor was a revolver produced at any stage of the search, which, as I have said, lasted about five minutes. Dr. Ryan Dr. Ryan Dr. Ryan: Might I ask the Minister to tell us from what source he got this impartial information? Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney: I got it from the proper impartial source. Dr. Ryan Dr. Ryan Dr. Ryan: From the person who is accused? Mr. G. Boland Mr. G. Boland Mr. G. Boland: From the people accused of committing crimes? Mr. Briscoe Mr. Briscoe 1092 Mr. Briscoe: Might I ask the Minister is it the practice when men are detained in such circumstances to have records entered in the books at the Gárda Síochána stations of the [1092] time that the person is brought in and when the person is released? Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney: That is quite a different question. Mr. Briscoe Mr. Briscoe Mr. Briscoe: I submit it is quite relevant.
