Dáil Éireann - Volume 31 - 11 July, 1929 In Committee on Finance. - Trade Loans (Guarantee) (Amendment) Bill, 1929—Committee and Final Stages. The Dáil went into Committee. Section 1 agreed to. Question proposed: “That Section 2 stand part of the Bill.” Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass: Will the Minister tell us why it is proposed to continue Section 2 of the Act in view of the fact that no guarantees have been given under it? Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan: We are limited under the Act. We made a division of the sum different from the original division of three-quarters of a million and one quarter of a million as between the two purposes. We are still not without hope that a case may come along where an actual loan might be granted. Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass: There is no application pending? Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan: No, but one may come in. As only £320,000 to date has been involved, even when one adds in the full tot of the others that are coming in, and it does not exhaust the money available for the second purpose, I do not think there is any harm in having it in. Question put and agreed to. Remaining sections and title agreed to. Bill ordered to be reported. The Dáil went out of Committee. Bill reported. Question proposed: “That the Bill be received for Final consideration.” Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass 927 [927] Mr. Lemass: The Minister mentioned during the discussion of the Estimates two cases amounting to £80,000 which, he said, would fall to be concluded almost immediately —that was at the beginning of the month. Were these the two cases in which guarantees were given in the meantime? Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan Mr. McGilligan: These are the first two of the three I referred to, amounting to £84,000, £70,000, £10,000, and a new one of £4,000. Question put and agreed to.
