Mr. Coburn asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what is the cause of the delay in the taking over by the Land Commission of the Robson Estate, Redbarns, Dundalk, Co. Louth; and whether he will state when these lands will be taken over for distribution.

Mr. Roddy: Proceedings have been instituted under the provisions of the Land Act, 1923, for the acquisition of the untenanted lands of Point Marshes Lower and Marsh South in this estate. Negotiations as to the price for these lands are pending, and the Land Commissioners are not at present in a position to state when the lands will be taken over for distribution.

Mr. Coburn: Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the owner of the land is quite willing to sell, and will he facilitate the owner to pay off the death duties, arrears of income tax and other debts that have been accruing on the estate for the past few years? The congests there are very anxious to take these lands if and when the Land Commission is in a position to divide them. Will the Parliamentary Secretary soon be in a position to state definitely when the land will be acquired?

Mr. Roddy: As a matter of fact, the owner has objected to the acquisition of portion of the land.

Mr. Coburn: He informs me that he is very anxious to sell the land.

Mr. Roddy: He has a rather peculiar way of showing his anxiety.

[829] Mr. Coburn: There is only a question of a few hundred pounds in dispute. He wants £4,000 and he has been offered £3,300.

Mr. Roddy: He has objected to the acquisition of portion of the land, and consequently the proceedings are delayed.
