Proinnsias O Fathaigh asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the Land Commission propose to deal with the congested estate of Mr. William J. Farren, Toorleitra, Woodford, Co. Galway.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Lands and Fisheries (Mr. Roddy): The estate referred to, comprising 24 holdings in the townland of Toorleitra, Co. Galway, is the subject of proceedings for sale under the Land Act, 1923, but the estate has not yet been reached in its order of priority to be dealt with by the Land Commission. The Commissioners are unable at present to say when the estate may be reached, but when it is reached it will be dealt with as speedily as possible.

Seosamh O Ceinneide asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state whether it is his intention to divide the lands of Heathstown and Ballinlough, Co. Westmeath, amongst the uneconomic holders and landless men in the district.

Mr. Roddy: The lands of Heathstown. Clovan and Dervotstown, comprising 780 acres, in the estate of Captain R. S. Dyas, are the subject of proceedings under the provisions of Section 24 of the Land Act. 1923.

[10] An offer has been made by the Land Commission for the purchase of the lands of Ballinlough, comprising 434 acres, on the estate of Mrs. Anna M. Nugent, which has been accepted.

Possession of the lands comprised in these two properties has not yet been taken by the Land Commission. The question of the disposal of the lands is at present engaging the attention of the Commission.

Mr. Kennedy: Will the Minister state whether contracts for the building of houses have been given away on these estates and whether it is intended to settle migrants on these estates?

Mr. Roddy: That is a different question. I should say it is very likely that some migrants would be brought in after the local smallholders had been settled.

Mr. Kennedy: Have contracts been given for the building of houses?

Mr. Roddy: I could not answer that.

Mr. Killilea asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will reconsider the applications of Messrs. Hugh and John Scarry and Matthew Dolan (Record No. S. 3260), Quintin Dick Estate, Co. Galway, to parcels of land, either by migration or otherwise, in view of the manner in which they were treated in the recent division of above estate.

Mr. Roddy: The Land Commission have noted the applications of Hugh and John Scarry and Matthew Dolan for consideration in the event of suitable lands being acquired in the vicinity of their holdings.
