Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) how many bookmakers are at present detained in the Saorstát prisons arising out of overholding of Betting Duty; (b) the amount of duty due the Revenue Commissioners in each case; (c) the amount of the fine imposed [1454] in each case; and (d) the duration of confinement in each case to date.

Mr. Blythe: The particulars required by the Deputy, set out according to the headings in the question, are as follows:—

(a) Two.

(b) £282 8s. 8d. and £27 8s. 1d.

(c) £500 and £500 (mitigated by the District Justice to £125).

(d) 51 days and 36 days.

The first items and the second items under the headings (b) (c) and (d) correspond.
