Mícheál O Braonáin asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been called to the resolutions passed by the Roscommon County Council at its meeting held on the 1st June, relative to the four drainage schemes—Cross River, Clogher, Feorish and Derrynadooey, Corboley and Sandfield—and whether he will now state if the proposals are in order, and if the Board of Works is prepared to start work on any or all of those schemes at once, as the present conditions are most favourable for this class of work.

Mr. Bourke: The Commissioners of Public Works have received copies of the resolutions referred to, and note that the Roscommon County Council have now agreed to make the necessary contributions towards the cost of the schemes. They have instructed their engineer to prepare a detailed drainage scheme for the Cross River, but, in view of the requirements of the Act, actual work cannot be begun for a considerable time. In the Clogher and Corboley and Sandfield cases the Commissioners are advised that an engineering survey is necessary in each case before finally deciding on the estimate, and these are being put in hands. The Sligo County Council have not yet agreed to contribute their share of the cost of the Feorish River and Derreendooey scheme, and, until they do so, no further action can be taken by the Commissioners.
