Proinnsias O Fathaigh Proinnsias O Fathaigh Proinnsias O Fathaigh asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state the total price paid by the Land Commission to John A. Lewis, Esq., for the untenanted lands of his estate—S. 1990, Galway—which lands were vested in the Land Commission on February 8th, 1929, and whether he will state the various items that made up the total price. Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy 12 Mr. Roddy: The price paid for the [12] untenanted lands on the estate of J. A. Lewis was £8,650. It was paid for the lands as a whole. Proinnsias O Fathaigh Proinnsias O Fathaigh Proinnsias O Fathaigh asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state whether the Land Commission, in dealing with the congested estate of John A. Lewis, Esq., Galway, S. 1990, have yet instituted proceedings for the resumption of the retained holdings Nos. 19, 27 and 28, in which a tenancy is claimed by the owner's uncle, Henry H. Lewis, Esq., and if so, whether he will state at what date such proceedings were instituted. Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy: Proceedings have been instituted for the resumption of the holdings of H. H. Lewis and on the 7th inst. an order was obtained authorising the Land Commission to resume the holding. Proinnsias O Fathaigh Proinnsias O Fathaigh Proinnsias O Fathaigh asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state why the Land Commission, in dealing with the congested estate of John A. Lewis, Galway, S.1990, did not take over for the relief of congestion the six holdings retained on the estate, before instructing their Inspector to prepare a scheme for the settlement of the estate. Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy: The scheme for the division of the lands acquired on the estate of John A. Lewis will cover the resumed holdings as well as the untenanted lands. Proinnsias O Fathaigh Proinnsias O Fathaigh Proinnsias O Fathaigh asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state whether the Land Commission, in dealing with the congested estate of John A. Lewis, Esq., S.1990, Galway, have decided to alter in whole or in part the policy previously outlined regarding the congested tenants. Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy 13 Mr. Roddy: The Deputy asked on 7th March, 1928, whether the Land Commission in dealing with the estate of John A. Lewis proposed to make any enlargement in connection with the congested holdings on the estate apart from the holdings mentioned in the retained [13] list issued by the Land Commission dated 7th February, 1928, and was informed in reply that negotiations were on foot to migrate the owner from his demesne and that the lands thus available together with other untenanted lands on the estate will, when vested in the Land Commission, be utilised for the improvement and enlargement of the small holdings on the estate. There has been no change in the policy of the Land Commission as regards the congested holdings on the estate. Mr. Fahy Mr. Fahy Mr. Fahy: The Parliamentary Secretary then implies that no outside congests are to be brought on to this estate until the congests on the estate have got economic holdings? Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy Mr. Roddy: Of course, the Deputy will understand that the negotiations have not reached a stage that the Land Commission are in a position to prepare a scheme for the division of the lands.
