Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loan for House Building to Mayo Tenants.

Tomás O Conaill asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether any decision has yet been come to in the matter of the application of Mr. Jeremiah Moran, a tenant on the Durrell estate, Knocknabola, Westport, for a loan to enable him to build a house on his holding.

Parliamentary Secretary to Minister for Lands and Fisheries (Mr. Roddy): The Commissioners have now decided to make a loan to Mr. Jeremiah Moran, Knocknabola, a tenant of the Durrell estate (C.D.B. 201 Mayo), to be added to the purchase price of his holding and repaid by a Land Purchase annuity in order to assist him to build a new dwelling house, provided he agrees to execute the necessary agreement.

Tomás O Conaill asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if the Irish Land Commission has received application from Mr. Martin Joyce, of Lissatava, Claremorris, Co. Mayo, a tenant on the estate of the Marquis of Sligo, C.D.B. 139, for an additional grant of £25 for building purposes, and if it is the intention of the Minister to consider this application favourably.

Mr. Roddy: The Irish Land Commission has received an application from Mr. Martin Joyce, Lissatava, Claremorris, a tenant of the estate of the Marquis of Sligo (C.D.B. 139 Mayo), for an additional grant of £25 for building a house, but having regard to the amounts already given him for this purpose the Land Commissioners will not consider the [1937] question of granting further assistance in this matter.
