Dáil Éireann - Volume 29 - 09 May, 1929 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tariff on Fish Barrels. Mr. Cassidy Mr. Cassidy 1686 Mr. Cassidy asked the Minister for Finance whether he can give any indication as to when the Tariff Commission will issue a Report on [1686] the application for a tariff on fish barrels. Mr. Desmond Fitzgerald Mr. Desmond Fitzgerald Mr. Desmond Fitzgerald: I understand that the Tariff Commissioners are not yet in a position to say when their Report on this application will be presented. They have, however, issued a circular letter to all the parties who gave evidence in connection with the application, stating that no action will be taken by them during the spring fishing season which would be likely to affect the existing conditions in the fishing industry in the present year. Mr. Cassidy Mr. Cassidy Mr. Cassidy: Would the Minister say if that particular letter is without prejudice to the ultimate recommendations of the Tariff Commission? Mr. Fitzgerald Mr. Fitzgerald Mr. Fitzgerald: I will have to refer the Deputy to the Minister. Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass: Was the letter sent without the consent of the Executive Council? Mr. Fitzgerald Mr. Fitzgerald Mr. Fitzgerald: My memory is a bit faulty. Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass: Have the Tariff Commissioners any authority under the statute which established them to issue statements to the effect that a tariff on a certain class of article will not be imposed during a period fixed by them? Mr. Fitzgerald Mr. Fitzgerald Mr. Fitzgerald: You had better refer this question to the Minister for Finance. Dáil Éireann 29 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. Tariff on Fish Barrels.
