Dáil Éireann - Volume 29 - 11 April, 1929 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Revenue from Telegrams. Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the amount of the loss in respect of the Telegraph Branch of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs during each of the financial years ended March 31st, 1928, and March 31st, 1929, and the extent to which the saving of £66,000 estimated by him to accrue from the increase in telegram charges during the financial year ended March 31st, 1929, was, in fact, realised. Mr. Heffernan Mr. Heffernan Mr. Heffernan: The loss on telegraphs for the financial year ended the 31st March, 1928, was £142,212. Complete returns for the last financial year are not yet available, and will not be for some months to come. I propose in connection with the current year's Estimates to indicate in a general statement the effect of the increased telegraph charges upon traffic and revenue.
