Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin School Attendance Inspectorship.

Dr. Keogh asked the Minister for Education if he will expedite the appointment of a school attendance inspector — which has been vacant for the past eighteen months — for the north-west area of Dublin City.

Minister for Education (Professor O'Sullivan): This is a matter in which I have no power beyond that of sanction. Under the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 2 of the School Attendance Act, 1926, the power to propose the appointment of a school attendance officer for the area mentioned rests with the School Attendance Committee, subject to the approval of the City Commissioners. Proposals satisfying these provisions have not come before me. When they do so, I will see that the matter is dealt with without delay.
