Tomás O Deirg Tomás O Deirg Tomás O Deirg asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state what action, if any, the Government has taken with a view to bringing about a settlement of the dispute between the Carlow Sugar Manufacturing Company and the Beet Growers' Association. Minister for Finance (Mr. Blythe) Ernest Blythe Minister for Finance (Mr. Blythe): In view of the existing situation, I would prefer not to make a statement at the moment on the matter. Mr. Derrig Mr. Derrig Mr. Derrig: Are we to understand that the Ministry therefore is prepared to allow the factory to continue canvassing individual growers and to break up the Association? If that is allowed to continue, the Association will be left without any bargaining power whatsoever. May I ask the Minister whether any steps have been taken to prevent the factory approaching individual growers except through the Association, and have those steps been taken by the Government? Mr. Blythe Mr. Blythe Mr. Blythe: That does not arise out of the question. I have discussed this matter with the Minister for Agriculture, the other Minister most interested, and I think it better to make no statement. Mr. Davin Mr. Davin Mr. Davin: Is the Minister satisfied that the figures shown in the balance sheet would justify the firm in causing reduction of 10/- per ton in the raw material? Mr. Blythe Mr. Blythe Mr. Blythe: That certainly does not arise out of the question. Mr. Derrig Mr. Derrig Mr. Derrig: Owing to the lack of information on this matter. I intend to raise it on the adjournment. Mr. Blythe Mr. Blythe Mr. Blythe: I will refuse to answer on the adjournment, and the Deputy can talk to empty Government Benches if he likes.
