Dáil Éireann - Volume 27 - 22 November, 1928 CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REQUEST FOR A DONEGAL BRIDGE. Mr. CASSIDY Mr. CASSIDY Mr. CASSIDY asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he has received a memorial signed by a large number of residents in Fintown district (Co. Donegal) requesting that a bridge be erected over the Cloughernogue River at the end of the Adderwell Bog Road, and whether he is aware that when this river is in flood children residing in the district are prevented from proceeding to school, owing to the danger experienced in crossing the river, and whether he will issue instructions to have the erection of a bridge commenced without further delay. Mr. RODDY Mr. RODDY Mr. RODDY: A report has just been received regarding the bridge referred to and is under consideration by the Land Commission. Mr. CASSIDY Mr. CASSIDY 591 [591] Mr. CASSIDY: Does the Minister realise that, under the School Attendance Act, it is compulsory for children to attend school and that when this particular river is in flood children are prevented from attending school. In addition to that, people from three townlands are prevented from coming to the village. In view of the fact that a foot-bridge with hand-rail would only cost £20 or probably less, will he see that the matter is expedited? Mr. RODDY Mr. RODDY Mr. RODDY: I understand that the erection of a new school is contemplated, and when it is erected it will obviate the necessity for children crossing the bridge. Mr. CASSIDY Mr. CASSIDY Mr. CASSIDY: That would not altogether get over the difficulty, inasmuch as people above school age come from three townlands into the village, and they are prevented from doing so when the river is in flood because of an expenditure of £20 or less. Mr. RODDY Mr. RODDY Mr. RODDY: The whole matter is under consideration. Dáil Éireann 27 CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. REQUEST FOR A DONEGAL BRIDGE. Questions 19281122
