Dáil Éireann - Volume 27 - 22 November, 1928 CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DUBLIN HOUSING PROGRAMME. PEADAR S. O DUBHGHAILL PEADAR S. O DUBHGHAILL PEADAR S. O DUBHGHAILL asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether, having regard to the high cost of building, and consequent high rents, he would consider in future proposals for housing legislation, in so far as it concerns a housing programme for Dublin, the necessity of accommodating more people in central areas, and so save cost of transport and extra cost of food away from home; and whether, having regard to the growing number of derelict sites, causing an eyesore and a nuisance in the city, he will seek powers enabling the local authority to confiscate such sites as are valueless and erect dwellings thereon. General MULCAHY General MULCAHY 587 General MULCAHY: The selection of sites suitable for the provision of working-class [587] dwellings is a matter, in the first instance, for the local authorities, who are enabled under existing legislation to acquire such sites compulsorily. The treatment of derelict sites in Dublin is a matter which is being considered in consultation with the City Commissioners. Dáil Éireann 27 CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS.
