Dáil Éireann - Volume 27 - 21 November, 1928

QUESTION OF THE ADJOURNMENT.

Dr. WARD: In view of the unsatisfactory answer to question No. 19 on the Order Paper, I beg to give notice that I will raise this matter on the motion for the adjournment this evening.

MINISTER for INDUSTRY and COMMERCE (Mr. McGilligan): This was an umpire's decision. That is a matter in which no Government Department can interfere.

Dr. WARD: I presume that we cannot debate the matter now.

AN CEANN COMHAIRLE: Would the Deputy say what it is exactly that he wants to raise?

Dr. WARD: The unsatisfactory answer given.

Mr. McGILLIGAN: The unsatisfactory answer is that the umpire has given a decision, and his decision is final. No one is going to be here to answer for the umpire.

Mr. G. BOLAND: Can we debate it now, because I would like to have something to say about it?

AN CEANN COMHAIRLE: Perhaps before the motion for the adjournment comes on we may be able to ascertain [429] what precisely it is that the Deputy wants to raise.

Mr. DAVIN: Does the Minister deny that he is responsible for the appointment of the umpire?

Mr. McGILLIGAN: No.
