Dáil Éireann - Volume 27 - 16 November, 1928 PUBLIC SAFETY BILL, 1928—SECOND STAGE. MINISTER FOR JUSTICE (Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney) James Fitzgerald-Kenney MINISTER FOR JUSTICE (Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney): I move:—“That the Public Safety Bill, 1928, be read a second time.” Mr. DE VALERA Mr. DE VALERA Mr. DE VALERA: We are, of course, anxious to facilitate the passing of this Bill, but we hope that we will have an opportunity in the Committee Stage of amending it. We do not want to be responsible for continuing this Act on the Statute Book, and if this is, as I believe, going to be a real Public Safety Bill, we see no reason at all why, for example, you would have anything more than: “Section 1 of The Public Safety Act, 1927, No. 31, is hereby repealed.” Mr. FITZGERALD-KENNEY Mr. FITZGERALD-KENNEY Mr. FITZGERALD-KENNEY: A resolution was passed by the House to that effect, but, having regard to the Deputy's attitude. I propose to postpone the further stages now until after the Estimates are finished. Question put and agreed to. Committee stage ordered for Wednesday, 21st November.
