Dáil Éireann - Volume 27 - 14 November, 1928 CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DAMAGE TO LICENSED PREMISES. Mr. KENT Mr. KENT 4 Mr. KENT asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state the reason why the compensation for amounts of £2,100 and £700 awarded by Judge McElligott, Court Judge for Limerick, on the 17th July, 1925, to John Bacon, of Glenbrohane, Co. Limerick, [4] in respect of injuries to his licensed premises at Glenbrohane by Black and Tans and others during the period known as the Anglo-Irish war, and injuries to the said premises during the civil war, have not been paid. Mr. BLYTHE Mr. BLYTHE Mr. BLYTHE: The only claim which can be traced in my Department from Mr. Bacon is one for £4,000 lodged under the Damage to Property (Compensation) Act, 1923, for the alleged commandeering of shop goods between July, 1921, and April, 1923. On foot of this claim, a Report dated 18th July, 1925, recommending the payment of £2,125 was made in respect of goods alleged to have been commandeered between March, 1922, and April, 1923. From inquiries made, I was not satisfied that the goods were taken without the consent of the applicant, and I am, accordingly, unable to make any payment on foot of the Report.
