CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PROTECTION OF WILD BIRDS.

Mr. A. BYRNE asked the Minister for Justice whether he proposes to introduce proposals for legislation this session for the protection of wild birds; and whether any proposals for that purpose are at present under consideration.

MINISTER for JUSTICE (Mr. Fitzgerald-Kenney): I have not at present under consideration any proposals for legislation for the further protection of wild birds.

Mr. A. BYRNE: Is the Minister aware that some time ago it was stated that the matter would get consideration? I think that was twelve months ago when that was stated.

Mr. FITZGERALD-KENNEY: Who stated it?

Mr. BYRNE: It was stated from the Government Benches.

Mr. FITZGERALD-KENNEY: The Deputy must know that the state of business in the House is now, let me say, in a rather congested state, to say the least of it. This is not by any means an urgent or pressing question. If it is any help to the Deputy, I want to say that I have considerable sympathy with the object he mentions.

Mr. HOLT: Would the Minister take steps to introduce legislation for the special protection of the Dublin gulls?

Mr. P. HOGAN (Clare): And what about the country gulls?
